What’s the Word?
“Logos” has several connotations. At its most basic, it signifies a “gathering of things with a certain criterion” and establishes an “orderly relation between objects/ideas”. The Greek world logos, means “word” or “argument” which in this case, links the presence of thoughts to kinesthetic, or moving endeavors.

Logokinesis Education

What is Logokinesis?

Logokinesis refers to the art of interpersonal communication skills for movement teachers.

Our approach to movement encourages the application of so-called “soft skills” to improve physical performance and make the most of our relationships with clients and students.

By improving their soft skills movement teachers can consistently enhance the learning process of those who seek their expertise. Our workshops for Pilates and Ballet teachers offer a platform for discussion and networking as well as proposing “child” and “adult” center learning practices to enhance your teaching skills.

We challenge the assumption, that endless repetition of movement without explanation produces optimal results. It does not.

We believe, that working from the inside out, using all the senses to integrate information, does.

Our motto?
THINK. THEN MOVE.

Logokinesis Pilates

This workshop consists of a STOTT Pilates-based conditioning class that displays group communication applications. We will experiment with experiential anatomy, cueing, using words and touch as primary motivators, as well as discovering the advantage of aromatherapy for anchoring kinaesthetic information. Come prepared to move, talk, touch and smell!

The workshop can be a general introduction to Logokinesis Pilates or concentrate on the following aspects of teaching and technique:

Logokinesis Experiential Anatomy Workshop
This workshop takes away the fear from the anatomy portions of Pilates exams. We will work our way through all muscle groups needed for your certification and connect them to specific exercises, on your body.

Logokinesis Principles Revisited Workshop
Here we go back to basics, revisiting Pilates principles and offering teaching approaches for a varied workout in your clients. We also train you on identifying personality profiles and learning styles and adapt your programming accordingly.

Logokinesis Trainer Health Workshop
A neglected aspect of Pilates education, this workshop is the pendant to Nicola’s book: People Skills for Pilates Trainers: Balancing, Health, Works and Relationships in the Body-Mind Spirit World. How often should trainers work out? What are the most dangerous work related injuries and how do we avoid them? What can we do if clients follow us in our sleep? Are just some of the issues tackled in this course.

Logokinesis for Ballet Class

Logokinesis, refers to the art of interpersonal communication for movement teachers.

Dance has a long tradition, dating back to the court of France. In terms of pedagogy however, a ballet class in the 1600’s was taught very similarly to the way it is taught today. This is intriguing, especially considering that athletic performance and training has benefited enormously from psychological, medical and communication scholarship. Although dance medicine is slowly making an impact in order to protect dancers from injury, communication skills are a neglected area in dance education.
If you are a dance teacher, that would like to explore new ways of teaching to improve the technique of your students or if you would just like to develop professionally in a non-traditional way, we encourage you to attend one of our workshops. The Logokinesis Ballet workshop explores implementing elements of child centered learning in a traditional ballet class, by offering “hands on” tools to energize your teaching routine and foster team spirit in your classroom.

We will start with an experiential anatomy class, the use of sound for training the muscles required for balance, employ hand weights to enhance coordination in a Pirouette and employ the beneficial scents of essential oils to foster concentration and endurance. The experience of the senses in relation to our movement will help sharpening the awareness of our very personal body-mind balance and offer new ways of communicating this learning.

Workshops can be a general introduction to Logokinesis, or focus specifically on the following aspects of technique:

Aplomb Workshop
Training Balance

Pirouette Workshop
Training Focus, Biomechanics and Coordination

Ballon Workshop
Training elevation, musicality and muscular strength

Come prepared to dance, touch, sing and smell!
